How can I get Screenrights International to work for me?

Screenrights International is a cost effective and efficient way of collecting various royalties from Europe, the United States, Canada, Latin America and South Africa. We also keep abreast of international developments, making sure our members don’t miss out on new sources of royalties from around the globe. This In Brief sheet explains how Screenrights International can work for you.

How can I get Screenrights International to work for me?

If your titles have been broadcast in any of the above territories, we can register details with each society by its particular deadline, removing the need for you to deal with every society individually. Simply register with us once. In many cases you will already be doing this when you register for the Australian and New Zealand collection services. We will also deal with any conflicts over title registration and sign warranties that are necessary for payments on your behalf. The relevant forms are available on our website or you can email international@screenrights.org for more information.

If you are not yet a Screenrights member, you will also need to complete a membership agreement. Again, the form is on our website or you can email us for more information.

What information do I need to supply to register my titles?

A registration form can be downloaded from our website, specifying all the information we need from you, including title details, as well as production, cast and crew, genre and duration details. This information can be supplied to us as a PDF attachment to email, or in hard copy. If you have a large catalogue, please contact us to discuss the easiest way to register.

What royalties are collected?

Screenrights collects royalties for:

Retransmission: These royalties are paid by cable and satellite operators who retransmit or carry free to air broadcasts as part of their service. It also includes closed circuit retransmission, for example within a hotel or recreation complex.

Copying: This includes blank tape and private copying levies to compensate rightsholders for the private or home copying of their work (for example recording from TV at home), and educational copying royalties.

Group Television: these are royalties collected to compensate rightsholders when broadcasts of their programs are shown in certain public places, such as bars and shops.

When can I expect to be paid?

Screenrights International is continually making royalty payments. When we receive royalties from an international society, we contact the relevant rightsholders and pay them.

How much does Screenrights International charge?

As a non-profit service, we only deduct our administrative overheads from the royalties that we collect. The rate is set at 11%, one of the most competitive in international collections.
