retransmission

Australia

Retransmitting audiovisual material

Under the Australian Copyright Act, free to air broadcasts of audiovisual material can be retransmitted (by a pay television station, for example), provided the retransmitter pays a fee to the copyright owners. Other forms of retransmission include mobile television, and retransmission in hospitals, large buildings and developments.

Screenrights has been appointed to administer these provisions. We have entered agreements with pay television operators and other retransmitters of broadcast material, and we collect royalties for this use. This money is distributed to the copyright owners.

If you would like to find out more about retransmission, email us with your query.

"Because of the Screenrights licence, we have ready access to documentaries, movies and other programming for use in lectures, tutorials and to keep as an ongoing resource at the university."
