retransmission

Retransmitting audiovisual material

Under the Australian Copyright Act, free to air broadcasts of audiovisual material can be retransmitted (by a pay television station, for example), provided the retransmitter pays a fee to the copyright owners. Other forms of retransmission include mobile television, and retransmission in hospitals, large buildings and developments.

Screenrights has been appointed to administer these provisions. We have entered agreements with pay television operators and other retransmitters of broadcast material, and we collect royalties for this use. This money is distributed to the copyright owners.

If you would like to find out more about retransmission, email us with your query.

"Whilst many programs are available commercially, very few are captioned and in our efforts to support the hearing impaired and to ensure equity in the classroom, it is essential that we are able to record captioned programs using the Screenrights licence."
