Copying television and radio
Staff at all Australian TAFEs can copy whatever they want from television and radio, whenever they want. There is no need to obtain permission, nor do you need to pay individual copyright clearances and, in most instances, you do not even need to keep a record of what you have taped. Provided your TAFE has a Screenrights licence, it's as simple as pushing the "record" button.
In addition to this, many licensed TAFEs can also communicate copied titles, covering such uses as making programming available to students online. These Screenrights services ensure that you can make the most of television and radio as educational tools without the hassle of tracking down individual copyright clearances.
TAFEs covered under the Screenrights licence
Although you may not know it, your TAFE has a Screenrights licence already. Because radio and television are such a valuable resource, all Australian TAFEs have taken out this licence to ensure that they have a simple and convenient means of accessing this material.
But the way in which the licence works and your ability to use material under the agreement can vary. To find out about your TAFE's licence, please contact us. For a practical guide to copying and more, see also FAQs, or a summary in the Info Sheet - Educators .
Making the most of television programs for TAFE students
EnhanceTV is an online resource developed by Screenrights to help teachers and librarians get the most out of their Screenrights licence. The site contains online program guides, free study guides and feature articles. By joining EnhanceTV you can choose to receive the popular free email educational TV guide which is divided into learning areas. Membership is free.
If you have missed out on taping a program, EnhanceTV has an online store of copied programs. Alternatively you can request EnhanceTV to record upcoming programs on behalf of your TAFE. All copies are advertisement-free and delivered within 7 working days. The EnhanceTV store is exclusive to Australian educational institutions with a Screenrights licence.
